For generations, our people have made a point of providing for their loved ones. We were taught that once we got married and started a family we had to make out a will, purchase life insurance, and yes—go to the cemetery and buy plots. The feeling was that “if something should happen”, our spouse and children would have everything taken care of and wouldn’t have to deal with such matters at a very difficult time. Today, many people in South Florida have discovered that they can provide ultimate peace of mind by pre-planning their funerals—the next logical step in caring for their loved ones.
If a pre-need plan is done properly, it creates a situation whereby when a death occurs, the survivors are left with little more to do than decide when the service should be held. In addition, costs are locked in so, even if inflation causes funeral prices to double or triple over the years, it won’t affect the pre-need purchaser. And, a pre-need plan can be paid out over time with no interest, and monies are held in trust until the time of need. In summary, funeral expenses are a certain expense that you can purchase at a discount today, lock in the costs, and pay out with zero financing.
