Alfred “Al” John Malefatto, beloved husband, father, uncle, cousin, dear friend, respected attorney and community leader, passed away unexpectedly on September 21. Al was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in the Ma Read Obituary
I met Al & Moria at UF law school and was able to visit them in Palm Beach County as my work for DOT took me there. I am so sorry to learn of the news and so late. I will remember Al as a gentleman and friend. My sympathy to his loved ones.
So sad to hear about Al's passing! What a gentleman, passionate community advocate, leader, volunteer, respected attorney, and Gator fan! I served with him on Grassy Waters Preserve and the Gale Environmental Academy and attended many Gator events (through my husband) where he cheered among the loudest. Prayers and hugs to his wife and family.
Thinking of Al and missing his friendship and wonderful spirit even more as time passes. What a guy….
I am sad that I have just recently been made aware of Al's passing. I have known Al for more than 35 years. I was his client and he became a good friend in the years I was in Palm Beach County. He was an outstanding attorney and a better friend and advisor. My condolences to his his family. He will be missed by his friends and family, in the legal community and in the community at large. I will remember him always.
What a loss!
He was the friendliest attorney ever. He could make regulators accept logic because of his down to earth demeanor and smile. I recommended him to developers and property owners in need of a helping hand and they all were thankful for his advices.
Best of all, he was a faithful Gator fan.

"Al Mal" was a beautiful person and a brilliant man. I enjoyed working with him so much.
Al and I met just after he graduated from UF law. He and Moria relocated to Ft. Pierce. Al was hired at the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council where he joined me as a Regional Planner. We became fast friends and he became my inspiration to go to law school and become a land use lawyer. Over the years we worked on many cases together, including one currently. I never had a conversation with Al that i didn't leave smiling about something he said. Condolences to Moria & the family, a great lawyer, but a better man.
Al Malefatto was one the finest gentleman I have ever known and one to the best board members any institution could ever have. Al was genuinely a servant leader in our community and his passing is stunning to me and many others who were touched by his humanity and were fortunate to call him a friend. I served Al and the board of Grassy Waters Preserve in the early 2000s and have kept in touch with him through the years. God love you Al. I will miss our occasional meetings after hours to talk of the Beatles and other classic rockers we knew as kids. I will see you someday Al! your friend Sanders E. Lewallen.
Quiet kindnes with deep knowledge and a willingness to share
In 2001 it was suggested to me that if I want to learn more about the practice of environmental law, I should speak to Al. Al graciously accepted my cold call, took me out to lunch, and we talked all about environmental law, music, and the Dolphins. Several years later, Al and I got to practice law together. He became a mentor, and more importantly a great friend. Al lived life with enthusiasm and gratitude and will be missed by all of us. -Jeff Collier
