Fredi, Chuck and David,

Not much I can say but what a powerful and moving service today. While certainly my parents move to LA 40 years ago created distance, I can't tell you how many times both my parents talked fondly of " Fredi and Joe". Fredi, my mother is always telling me about her calls with you! And how much she enjoys hearing your voice. And of course, my father, the man of few words, was speechless today when I called after the service to see how he was doing.

Thinking of all of you and hoping we can see everyone soon.

Dear Fredi,
I was so sorry and sad to learn about Joe's illness and passing away. He was certainly a giant of a man and has meant so much to his family and many friends and will be missed by them all.

It is difficult to pick out just one experience from almost 60 years of friendship and professional work. I was one of Joe's first clients at Arent Fox and a friendship developed immediately. My choice of experiences goes to our time spent with our boys and the beer can "Canventions". We became quite knowledgeable about the value of certain beer cans. During our travels together it was not unusual to stop at the city or county dumps to look for just the right can. As the boys grew up and left home we were both left with the huge collection of can. The Fries put the better cans on the fireplace mantlepiece, where they stayed for quite a while. I don't remember how they disposed of them but ours stayed in our basement (in boxes) until two years ago when we gave all of them to a friend who owns a beer distributorship. Note: We put 24 valuable cans on eBay for a week with a starting bid of $1.00 -- No Bids !!!

I remember the day he got the fish tank set up in his office. It really was beautiful but as his secretary I looked at him and said "I don't do fish!" Well, of course, I did when he was away from the office. Checking daily, feeding, putting demised (very few) fish in plastic bag and into freezer so could be checked for disease when he got back. Could add to my resume which, of course, I never needed. Worked with him a long time. So many memories of a very special person. Ann Louise Mapes
