Ethel was my dear aunt, married to my mother’s brother, my beloved Uncle David (Duddy). Since we were only ten years apart, she would often tell friends we were more like sisters which was very true. She strongly influenced me in my younger days in making important decisions and I was invariably glad with the choices she helped me make. When I had serious surgery in 2000, she flew up from Florida to New Jersey to help take care of me. That’s the kind of relationship we had. My brother, Joel, and I grew up in Brooklyn where all my mother’s siblings did and we were so very close with my cousins, Sheryl and Mona. We never lost that connection even when Ethel and Duddy moved to Florida and the girls married and lived in Massachusetts. Ethel’s last year was very difficult healthwise and I know we all feel that she’s finally at peace. But she will be missed!
