Robert Kurzon
February 17, 1946 - February 9, 2022
Robert Michael Kurzon, born February 17, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Known to some as “Bob,” “Dr. K,” “Ata,” and “Uncle Bob,” passed away February 9, 2022 at Memorial Regional Hospital, where he had been continuously on the medical staff since 1978. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, Dr. Kurzon received his degree in Medicine from the University of Miami and trained in Pathology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Miami Beach. He met his wife Andrea, a geriatric social worker, while training there, and they were married in 1973. After serving as a Medical Officer in the US Army and on staff at the University Of Miami School of Medicine, Dr. K relocated and began a 33-year career in surgical pathology in Hollywood. He served as the Chief of the Memorial West Pathology Department for 14 years. At the end of his clinical career in 2011, he turned his lifelong love of computer science into a new career in IT, aiding in installation and training for the hospital’s new informatics system. Bob was best known to his family as “the nicest guy you ever met.” Giving, slow to anger, never complaining, rational, and always willing to see the good in people. He loved music and his guitar collection. He had a passion for computers and technology and loved that during his lifetime, we figured out how to get the output of a guitar into a computer! Uncle Bob was not a showman or the life of the party. Instead, he loved non-fiction, science fiction, movies, and traveling with his family, reaching from Tokyo to Turkey during his lifetime. He was a sit-com lover, a nacho and ice cream lover, a comedy club lover, and a patient, non-fair weather friend to the Packers and Dolphins. His unique sense of humor and brilliantly creative mind will stay with all who knew him long after he is gone. In 2020, Bob received a lung transplant at the University of Florida. In honor of his passing, his family would like to remind everyone to consider becoming an organ donor, and they would request that any donations in Bob’s name be sent to UNOS (the United Network for Organ Sharing) or the UF/Shands Stevenson Clark Memorial Fund in support of Lung Transplant Patients. Robert is survived by his wife, Andrea, children, Jeff and Elyse, and grandchildren, Ethan, Ava, and Hannah, as well as his mother, June, and sister, Nancy. He took pride in being a source of knowledge, laughter, and guidance to his friends and family, and especially to his grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens 11520 SR7, Boynton Beach, FL 33473 on Sunday, February 13 at 11:30am.
