Ramon Tejeda
My name is Ramon Tejeda. I was privileged to be Steve’s Buddie, that’s what he called me and I reciprocated in like manner. We connected after many years when a mutual friend gave him my number. I couldn’t believe he had been able to locate me after more than 30 years. We would talk about the old times and reminisce about being in our early twenties and going to Las Vegas together. We shared a fondness of boxing and recall going to Vegas for the Cooney vs. Holmes fight. Although it was a sold out event, which we were unable to attend, we had vivid memories of the event and the atmosphere it created. Once we reconnected, we would talk on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, a few years ago, while I was still working at UCLA, he visited me. We met in Westwood and had dinner and reminisced about the great times that we shared together. I miss him already and I am finding it very difficult to process the fact that I will not talk to him anymore. I can only imagine how hard it must be for you, his family, to cope with the loss of your husband, father or brother. If any of you can respond to me and acknowledge that you have received my deepest condolences, I will greatly appreciate it. I would love to hear from you and share memories of him. He will always be in my heart.
