Dear Irv,
We already miss you dearly. Before writing this to you, we were reminiscing about all the time we've spent together over the years, and for Angela, a lot in recent years once you and Beth bought a home in Florida. Every time we saw you, we could not wait to hear your past stories of traveling and sailing. Our conversations were always vibrant and enthusiastic as we talked about expeditions aboard our research vessel, the islands, the mountains, house design, art and much more.
A favorite Robbins memory of ours takes place during one of our many visits to your home in Gladwyne. Your house was always full of friends and family, but to our enjoyment, it was also full of some of the most interesting artwork we had ever seen. To two kids it was an amusement park! We remember running around and playing in all of your installations, especially the one that looked like Cousin It, or maybe it was a weeping willow? We'd hide underneath it whenever you came into the room, so you wouldn't know we were in there touching something we definitely weren't supposed to be touching!
But even if you caught us, we're sure we wouldn't have gotten in any trouble. You were the most kindhearted, generous and lovable uncle. You were an absolutely wonderful human with a big heart and a great sense of humor. You lived the fullest life, and we will continue to think about the joy you brought to our world every single day. Just know that you touched so many lives, and we feel so lucky to be two of them. We love you and miss you and will forever be grateful that we got to share so much time together.

We are privileged to have known Irv and will always have wonderful memories of the times we spent with him. We were so lucky to have travelled with him to Israel, the Baltic Sea and Viet Nam. We will think of Irv on Super Bowl Sundays and when we drive down Penn Road, Black Rock Road or past Chesterbrook. We will miss Irv and we are so sorry for your loss. Probably the most special man I have ever met in my life. I was so lucky that Irv was such a significant part of my life for many years. He was giving, loving, funny, smart, clever and kind. I cannot believe he moved on to his next building project, as i just always assumed he would live forever. He had that kind of spirit and endless strength that i just thought would never end. I did not get to see him or connect much over the last number of years but I don't think there was a day when I didn't think of him, or remember something important that he taught me. I hope he takes as good care of everyone in heaven as he did here for 91 years.
The first time I met Uncle Irwin was at a family Bar Mitzvah, a man with an impending frame, a bright smile, and a warm hug. He appeared at every occasion like this — open arms and a smile. You sensed when you were with him that there would always be stories of adventure, misadventure, followed by laughter.
This is the way I will always remember him. He was the man that connected us with the past and the happy memories we all shared. During one our last meetings to celebrate his 90th birthday he pulled up hot in his black sports car and then regaled us with stories for a good two hours. Later that evening there were martinis and dancing, more jokes and laughter. Irwin appeared like he was part of the famous Brat Pack of the sixties with a drink in hand, a song in his heart, and a certain joie de vivre that was infectious. May we all learn to live like Irwin, may we all set our sails for the sun, fly off to new horizons and celebrate living. In a life full of ordinary, be like Irv.
Irwin (Irvington) Robbins was our friend. ALthough he lived 91 years, he was never and old man. Passionate, decent, fun-loving, highly intelligent, great friend, are barely descriptive of Irv’s many attributes. With he and Beth, their friendship and camaraderie was always a joy. Remembering my Uncle Irwin...hard to write this as he has been a part of my entire life. I will always miss him. As my late father Jerry's twin, his connection to my father was unique. My father's life was intricately intertwined with Irwin's,experiencing so much together, born together, enjoying the secret world of childhood twins, growing up through teen age years,shedding boyhood becoming men together serving in the Army as WW2 ended,the young ages of 17.
To me, Irwin seemed larger than life...never forget him flying into Sarasota Airport from Philadelphia with my cousins on board, how it was so exciting to see that tiny speedy plane descend from the sky. The twin they used to call "Bubbles" (high school) could really fly! Wow.
Even though we moved over a thousand miles away, my father and Irwin spoke daily. After school, I usually would head to my Dad's and Mom's business to work. If you went into my father's office guess who he was usually on the phone with...of course, Irwin.
When my father Jerry passed in 1998, Irwin reached out to me in a very special kind of way...the only way a twin Uncle could. Irwin understood the grief, he was there for me, stayed there for me... in return I hope I was able to help him with his. So much more to say.
I will always miss Irwin, grateful for having this amazing man as part of my life. I learned so much from him and cannot imagine life without.
