Abraham O Beckerman's Obituary
Abraham O. Beckerman (also known as Herb), 87, of Delray Beach, FL and formerly of New Hyde Park, NY, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on August 31, 2016. Abraham was born to Sylvia Pass and Max Beckerman and was the stepson of Esther Beckerman. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Anita Beckerman (his bubelah) and beloved son, Lawrence Beckerman. He is survived by his devoted children Sylvia Beckerman, Miriam Beckerman, David Beckerman (David Wexler) and Ruth (Andy) Beckerman-Rodau; and his treasured grandchildren, who knew him as Zaydee, Matthew Paul, Lenny Beckerman-Rodau (Laura Behrendt), Alex Paul (Danielle Fecteau-Paul), Molly Rodau (Daniel McCarey) and Mayaan Beckerman, and his dear sister and brother-in-law Ethel and Marvin Krotenberg.
Abraham believed, and actively engaged, in Tikun O’lam and spent many years contributing to the communities in which he lived. He was a founding member of Shelter Rock Jewish Center in Roslyn, NY where he helped create an award winning USY chapter and served as President. He was a long-time reading volunteer for local public schools, and volunteered with the IRS to help low-income seniors file taxes. He served as a chaplain at Delray Beach Medical Center, and led Shabbat services for many years at local nursing homes. The funeral will be held on Friday, September 2nd at 1:30 p.m. at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, 11520 State Road #7, Boynton Beach. The family will receive guests immediately following the burial service at 138 Normandy C, Delray Beach. Shiva will take place on Sunday, September 4th, from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the same location (Shiva minyan at 7:00 p.m.).
