Albert Whiter's Obituary
Albert William Whiter, age 91, of Delray Beach Florida, died peacefully on November 12, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was a first-generation American Born in Brooklyn to Sadie and Max Whiter of Poland, and was a devoted brother to Mia, Leo and William. He enjoyed happy marriages of 39 years to Bernice and 12 years to Leonora, both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his children, Kelly (Jonathan) Todd (Suzanne) and Ellen (Warren); grandchildren, Donald, Lacey, Kim, Jared and Michael; and eight grand-children. He also was the proud father of his beloved son Jamie. After graduating from Brooklyn Tech High School he volunteered to serve in WWII and joined the U.S. Navy. He spent four years in combat aboard the destroyer USS Herndon, in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He and his shipmates were involved in the ETO’s major campaigns: the invasions of Sicily, Italy and the south of France, and they were part of the fleet off Omaha beach on D-day. He loved life and enjoyed living it every day. Most of all he relished socializing with his family and devoted friends. With a twinkle in his eye, song in his heart and a skip in his step, he approached life with curiosity, Wonder and zest. His love for music brought joy to all around him, his gentle crooning always on-hand to lift the spirit. One of his greatest pleasures was to make people laugh; he never missed the opportunity to lighten the mood with a clever joke, observation or pun. Active and fit until the end, his athletic prowess and competitive spirit were fierce sources of pride. He excelled at many sports and activities including boxing, football, baseball and fishing, and later in life golf, shuffleboard and bowling. He had an inquisitive mind, was politically active and followed current events and international affairs. He never missed an opportunity to go out of his way for others and was eager to lend a helping hand whenever he saw a need. He was community-minded and derived great satisfaction from volunteering. His deep and abiding concern for others compelled him to contribute to many causes. Albert, you will live in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 15, at 10:am at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 5808 W. Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33484. Interment will take place Monday, November 16, at 1:pm at Beth Israel cemetery, US Highway 1 North, Woodbridge, NJ 07095. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations and messages of condolence be sent to the American Technion Society, 7251 W.
