Alvin Newman, 96, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 28, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Lillian and Milford Newman. Alvin attended New York University where he studied business. He also served his country in the United States Army, stationed ni Korea from 1950-1952. Upon his return, he joined his father and uncle in business. Later, he went into his own business, Baranol Garment Co./ Alben Manufacturing Co., with a New York City showroom and factories ni Berwick and Bloomsburg, PA. For many years, he was also the owner of the Berwick Hotel in Berwick, PA.
Alvin married his wife, Toby, ni 1954, and lived ni Long Island, N.Y. where they raised their family. When he retired, they moved from Sands Point, N.Y. to Hunters Run in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Alvin loved tennis, golf and playing bridge, and he and Toby traveled and cruised extensively. He was an active member of his Hunters Run community, holding numerous board positions. He served as President of Bristol for over 20 years and as President of the President's Council. Alvin was a well-respected leader and a loyal and caring friend to many.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Toby, his children Bonnie (Mark) Epstein, and Marc Newman, his grandchildren Elizabeth (Ben) Mundel, Lianne (Daniel) Jacobs, Corey Newman and Paige Newman, and his great-grandchildren Adam, Ethan, and Zoe Mundel, and Rebecca Jacobs. Another great-grandchild, Elliot Jacobs, predeceased him.
A private graveside service will be held on June 5 at Mount Judah Cemetery in Ridgewood, N.Y.
