ALVIN SCHWARTZ's Obituary
Alvin Schwartz, 93 years old of Delray Beach Florida sadly passed away on Friday, march 24, 2023 in the Delray Medical Center surrounded by his loving family members. Born in Danzig (the free state of Poland) on July 14, 1929 Alvin came to America and settled in New York with his parents, Eva and Max Schwartz, and his younger brother Leo Schwartz. Alvin was a graduate of New York University, and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting. Alvin served his country in the military during the Korean war, and immediately after this, he and his father established Max Schwartz and Son’s a food brokerage company which covered the north east in central Pennsylvania region it was on one of his business trips that he met and fell in love with the love of his life Lilly Kornfeld. they married on march 8, 1953, and resided in Kingston, Pennsylvania. They started a family with the birth of a daughter, Renee and a son David and spent many beautiful, wonderful and happy years together as husband and wife until the untimely death of his wife, Lily Schwartz on July 11, 2013. Alvin was a very successful businessman, well known in the food industry, both in the United States and Israel where he and his brother Leo, established Schwartz importing Company. Alvin loved Israel and although finding it challenging at times, working with Leo gave him pleasure knowing that in a small way he was helping the Israeli economy, and was given a prestigious award by the former Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon, for His
dedication to the economic development of the state of Israel. While in the United States, his company, Max Schwartz and sons grew rapidly and eventually merged with another company, giving them a new name, Schwartz and Hagerty sales. Alvin has been written up in the food trade news on numerous occasions for the various contributions He made to the food brokerage industry. Eventually, Alvin retired, moving to Florida with his wife Lilly. During those years they spent most of their time traveling the world with friends and family, going to Israel, at least once a year and enjoying life. They looked forward to their family coming to join them for the holidays during the course of the year, and made sure Every holiday the family spent together. Alvin was very active in many Jewish organizations. He served as chairman of the Kingston Synagogue a branch of Ohev Zedek Synagogue of Wilkes Barre PA. t He also was Chairman of the Hebrew Day of School of Kingston, Pennsylvania, where he was recognized with the prestigious, Shofar Award for his dedication and commitment to Jewish education. Alvin was well known in the food industry. Everyone knew the name Alvin Schwartz. Alvin was awarded by the Food Trade News “Icon” into their Hall of Fame.
In Florida Alvin was a founder of the Delray Orthodox Synagogue thus assuring that the Orthodox Jewish community had a special place to pray every day. At DOS Alvin was on the Board of Directors, served as a Vice president and served on numerous committees.
Nothing was more important to Alvin than his family. He cherished the achievements of his daughter, Renee, and
son David. Upon the arrival of his two granddaughters, Allison Z”L, and Stephanie, they were his pride and joy. Unfortunately, Alvin and Lily lost their granddaughter Allison Z“L at the age of 24 . Stephanie met her husband Jason Fried, and he made sure that this wedding would be like no other. Upon the arrival of his great grandson, Ayden Liam, Alvin felt doubly blessed. Poppy and Ayden formed a very special relationship, where Alvin taught Ayden how to give charity every Friday before the Sabbath by placing a dollar in a Charity box.
Alvin, loved to play bridge and looked forward each week to playing his game on Tuesdays and Thursdays with his buddies. He was competitive and loved when he could tell his family that his team won that day.
Alvin is survived by daughter Renee Heyden (husband David Heyden), son David Schwartz, granddaughter, Stephanie Fried, (husband Jason Fried) and great-grandson Ayden Liam Fried, all of Florida. Alvin is survived in Israel by his brother, Leo Schwartz and his wife, Margaret Schwartz and their children, Ruthie and Daniel and their spouses and children, as well as many other cousins, families and friends. He is survived by his wife Estelle Krim of Florida. Alvin touched the lives of many and he will be sadly missed by anyone who was ever lucky enough to meet him.
The funeral will take place on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 2:30 PM, at the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, Florida 33437.
Interment will follow at Eternal Light Cemetery, 11520 State Road 7, Boynton Beach Fl.33473. Shiva will be observed Monday through Thursday night from 1-3 pm, and 6:30-8:30pm. Contributions can be made to the charity of the individuals choice.
