Arlene Friedman's Obituary
Arlene Friedman, a record-breaking executive at Bloomingdales for over two decades, passed away Tuesday night in Boca Raton due to complications from a stroke. She was 82. Arlene was a multi million dollar revenue generator for Bloomingdales, both in Chicago and Miami. She was instrumental in the launch of the Miami/Aventura branch in 2001. In a statement to employees, Bloomingdales management praised Arlene as “part of the very fabric of the Aventura branch” and lauded her “professionalism, passion, and wonderful personality.” Born in New York City to Helen and Herman Levy, owners of the iconic Harris Levy linen conglomerate, Arlene grew up in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay neighborhood and attended Adelphi University. In 1958 she married Construction entrepreneur Stanley Friedman and they were married 40 years until his passing in 1998. Throughout her life, Arlene passions included fashion, politics, travel, and doting on her family. She leaves behind very close, dear friends in New York, Chicago, and Miami Arlene is survived by her two children Lori and Stephen, her grandchildren Alison, Josh, and Alex and her great grandchild Nathan.
