Barbara Breslow's Obituary
Barbara Breslow passed away peacefully Monday morning after being in a coma for two weeks after a fall. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Born in Parkchester, the Bronx, to Mac and Anne Becker, she moved to Bayside, Queens to attend middle school. She graduated Queens College magna cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She met Allen when she was 17 at Camp Kinder Ring. They were married when she was 21 and they lived in Old Bethpage, New York for 53 years before moving full time to Hunters Run in 2022 after being snowbirds since 2015.
Barbara will be remembered for her bubbly personality, her positive outlook on life, her hats, over-sized glasses and always being impeccably dressed. Though she is no longer with us in person, her spirit endures- in every child who discovers the joy of learning, in every friend who remembers her smile, and in every loved one who treasures her memory. Even though she was plagued by health maladies in recent years she was always a trouper and never complained.
Professionally she was a consummate educator and children were her passion. She loved teaching pre-kindergarten at the Fiedel School and then for 15 years at East Woods Country Day School. She was Education Director at Great Neck Community School for 20 years where she left an indelible mark on the children’s lives she touched.
She leaves behind her husband (Allen), her son (Jordan), her daughter (Jill Spodek) and their families (daughter in law, Karen and grandchildren Ian and Rachel and son in law, Rob Spodek and grandchildren Zachary and Joshua) and her sister-in-law Ellie Becker and her nephew Matt Becker and his family (wife Sara and children Cameron and Leila and niece Lauren Rosen and her family (husband Michael and children Marlowe and Chandler).
