Barbara Cohn's Obituary
Barbara Lynn Cohn, (lovingly known as Babs), passed away on August 4th, 2021 in Lake Worth, FL at home surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born in New York City to Sara Berman Merson and H. Nathan Merson on August 31st, 1940. Barbara attended the Walden School in NYC, and went on to earn her masters degree in Education from The College of New Rochelle, a number of years later.
In between, Barbara spent her time enjoying family and raising three daughters. Barbara married her childhood sweetheart, Ron, whom she met at the tender age of 12. Ron and Barbara were married for 62 years, and as Ron says, not long enough.
Barbara was active in the Riverdale Temple, having held the position as President of the Sisterhood. She adored supervising kitchen activities for many memorable events including the annual bazaar which raised valuable funds to support temple activities.
Barbara taught in the NYC school system, specializing in Reading Recovery and focused her attention on elementary schools in The Bronx, NY, where her skills were so valued. Barbara loved the Broadway theatre as well as playing Bridge, Canasta and of course Mah-Jongg, but nothing was more important to her than family. She adored her three daughters Nina, Lorri and Wendi, grandchildren George, Aaron, Jessica, Sarah and Emerson and great grandson Ryker, and cherished and nurtured her life-long friendships. She was actively involved in the Valencia Shores Chapter of Pap Corps, Hadassah, as well as a variety of clubs and activities in the community.
Barbara is survived by her husband Ron. She is preceded in death by her parents and devoted brother Erwin Merson.
