Barbara (Raitt) Goldberg's Obituary
Barbara Raitt Goldberg quietly passed away on November 17, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinsons. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, New York and was the loving daughter of Elsie and Dr. Saul J. Raitt of Great Neck, Long Island, NY. Barbara graduated from the University of Michigan. She married Ivan Goldberg in October of 1949 and was his beloved wife for 66 years. They had three children, Stuart, Joan and Lynda. Barbara was active in the Westchester Ballet Company where her daughters Joan and Lynda attended. Barbara co-created, owned and operated The Book Inn in Tarrytown, NY, a specialty book shop. Barbara and Ivan moved to Palm Beach County in 1977. Barbara was active and a former Chair of the Palm Beach County Library Advisory Board. She also participated in the establishment of the Center for Recovery at JFK Hospital where she was the Director of Education and Information helping to educate people concerning addiction both locally and nationally in all aspects concerning treatment and support systems. Upon retirement, Barbara and Ivan travelled abroad and to New England collecting antique books, accessories and artifacts which she loved. Mrs. Goldberg is survived by her devoted husband and daughters, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Jane Raitt of West Bloomfield, MI, her sister-in-law, Harriet Bettman of Somers, NY and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral arrangements are private and a Memorial Service is being planned to honor her remarkable life. Donations or contributions in memory of Barbara R. Goldberg may be made to a charity of choice .
