Barbara Silverman's Obituary
Barbara Silverman (née Griebaum)
October 26, 1936 – October 29, 2025
Barbara Silverman (née Griebaum) of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025—three days after celebrating her 89th birthday with her loving family at her side.
Born on October 26, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, Barbara lived a full and meaningful life defined by kindness, generosity, and devotion to family and community. A lifelong advocate for health causes, she worked tirelessly on behalf of both the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society—organizations close to her heart and reflective of her enduring compassion for others.
While living in Creve Coeur, Missouri, Barbara and her first husband, Jerry, welcomed their two loving daughters, Edie and Dena. After Jerry tragically passed away from a heart attack, Barbara devoted herself to ensuring a good life for her children. Despite many challenges, she built a home filled with love, laughter, and opportunity, which are values that continue to live on through her family.
In 1997, Barbara moved from her long-time home in Creve Coeur to South Florida to join her beloved husband, Mort. There, she embraced a vibrant new chapter of life, forming cherished friendships and becoming a formidable presence in the local card-playing community. A talented and fearless poker player, Barbara was both admired and good-naturedly feared at the table. Barbara was also an excellent ballroom dancer and rarely missed a chance to take to the floor on Friday nights, much to the enjoyment and amusement of her husband, Mort, who was a famously terrible dancer but never failed to be her biggest fan.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Edie and Doug Abramson, Dena and Jack Epstein, and her adored grandchildren, Jared, Dustin, and Kayla Epstein, who brought her endless pride and joy. She now reunites with her first husband, Jerry, and her second husband, Mort, who both preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, 11520 State Road 7, Boynton Beach, Florida.
Barbara will be remembered for her wit, her love of magic and a good laugh, and most of all, her unwavering love, commitment to, and pride in her family.
