Barry Belofsky's Obituary
Barry Belofsky, 86, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away on February 2, 2026. Born on October 30, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, Barry built a life defined by curiosity, craftsmanship, and deep devotion to family.
Barry worked for the New York City Transit Authority, where he retired as a Supervisor after years of dedicated service. Outside of work, he was a true hands-on problem solver—drawn to electronics, eager to repair anything he could, and always learning from the technical and scientific magazines he enjoyed reading.
Photography was one of Barry’s great passions. He was a perfectionist who famously set up a darkroom in the family bathroom, carefully developing photos and even hand-coloring many original black-and-white images. In 1976, he collaborated with a friend to photograph every Vatican coin for a book on the coins of the Vatican—work that reflected both his precision and his pride in doing things the right way.
Barry also loved science fiction and maintained a cherished collection of books he returned to again and again. He and his wife, Sheila, shared a special enjoyment of movies, especially musicals—favorites that brought them comfort and joy over the years. Above all, Barry valued family and the connections that held everyone together.
Barry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sheila Belofsky.
He is survived by his brother, Irwin Belofsky (Mitos); his children, Barbara Sauer (Miro), Joel Belofsky, and Michael Belofsky (Suzanne); his grandchildren, Timothy Belofsky (Ashley), Samantha Alencar (Jefter), and Brianna Sauer; and his great-grandchildren, Perry Belofsky, Noah Alencar, Elizabeth Belofsky, Evie Alencar, and Margaret Belofsky.
A memorial service will be held at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel (Delray Location)
at 10am on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
