Susan Scheingarten Ruttner
I was a student at the Yeshivah of Flatbush HS in the early 1960s. Mr. Kirsner was coach of the girls' basketball team — I was the center (5'9" was tall at that time). I was also the business manager and hired the referees for our games. Flatbush was the only girls' team in the Metropolitan Jewish High School League that had a male coach. Quite a distinction. Maybe that is why we learned to play 'like boys' and were quite successful.. He also coached the boys' team. I don't know if Mr. Kirsner ever mentioned it to his family — but I baked brownies for him every week (not sure if it was twice a week or only once). The last time I spoke to him was three years ago when I was organizing my class reunion in 2013. He was living in Lake Worth and was not well enough to come north.
