Bernard "Bernie" Kotler's Obituary
Bernard "Bernie" Kotler CPA, grew up in North Bergen, New Jersey where he was involved in the community's Orthodox synagogue; He read from the shul's first Torah, which had been donated by his parents. Bernie would later bring that Torah to a synagogue in Jerusalem in which his son Irwin was gabbai. Bernie attended Lycoming College and NYU for his MBA.
Bernie moved to Springfield in 1965. He had been active in Congregation Israel as financial secretary, vice president and the synagogue's board of trustees. He was a devoted participant in the synagogue's minyan, for which he served as gabbai.
Bernie had a distinguished record of public service in Springfield. He was a sergeant in the Springfield Police Auxiliary for years, director of Springfield Citizen Housing, a trustee of TV36, a member of B'Nai B'rith, and a commissioner on Springfield's Environmental Commission.
Bernie and his wife, Dorrine moved to Cascade Lakes-Boynton Beach 20 years ago. They have three children Irwin (Judy) of Jerusalem, Israel, Mitchell (Cyndee) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Lisa (Alan) of New Hampshire. Bernie is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and dear sister Andrea (Nathaniel) Alpert Singer.
A chapel service will take place at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel-Boynton Beach on Friday, February 10, 2023 2:30pm. There will also be a chapel service in New Jersey on Sunday, February 12, 2023 10:00am at Menorah Chapels. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery Washington Township, NJ. Those wishing to honor Bernie with a memorial contribution are kindly asked to consider Trustbridge Hospice. Arrangements in Florida have been entrusted to Beth Israel Memorial Chapel (11115 Jog Road Boynton Beach, FL)
