Bernard Okun's Obituary
Bernard Okun, 87, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Devoted son to Max and Beckie. Loving husband to Nima (nee Raphaely). Bernie always said that marrying Nima was the best decision of his life. Doting father to Martin (Donna nee Wasserman) and Barbara. Because education was very important to him, he gave his children every opportunity to further their education. Fond grandfather of Thomas and Simon Okun, and Libby and Daniel Erez. His circle of concern extended to his family in Russia, who he helped financially and facilitated their emigration. Mathematics and economics were his lifelong passions. He was a major influencer and had a substantial input into the professional lives of generations of students at the City University of New York, where he served as Professor of Economics for more than 30 years. A firm believer in logic and analytical thinking. He enjoyed playing handball and table tennis, and watching baseball. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson's Foundation or Jewish National Fund
