Beryl Shapiro's Obituary
Beryl "Babs" Klein Shapiro passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 31, 2024 at home in Boca Raton, Florida. Born on May 26, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Babs was preceded in death by her parents Nathan Klein and Bella Fishman Klein and her beloved husband, Harvey Shapiro. Babs graduated from Olney High School in 1951. In her life with Harvey, Babs loved being a wife and mother to their two children, and she especially adored her role as “Nanny” to her grandchildren. Known for her great cooking, her family looked forward to holidays and delicious dinners at Babs’s house. She especially enjoyed talking about politics, fashion, or her favorite singer, Frank Sinatra. During the last 35 years, Harvey and Babs created a wonderful life in Boca Raton spending time with family and friends and enjoying many activities at the Boca Pointe Country Club. They both loved to travel and did so whenever they could. After Harvey passed away in 2017, Babs found comfort and solace with her friends and sister in Boca Raton and enjoyed many lunches, outings, and Mahjong games at the Club. She continued visiting her favorite museums and collecting special art and sculpture pieces. She remained fiercely independent, and it was her wish to remain in her home during her final years. Babs is survived by her daughter, Sherri Guggenheim and husband David of West Chester, PA, and son, Adam Shapiro, DPM and wife, Megan of Cornelius, NC. In addition, Babs is survived by her five grandchildren, Jennifer Guggenheim, Joseph Guggenheim and wife, Brea, Harper Shapiro, Scarlett Shapiro, and Holden Shapiro, two great-grandchildren, Lily Rubinstein and Beau Rubinstein, and her sister, Harriet Klein Smith. Babs’s intelligent conversations and sharp wit will be greatly missed. A private Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Beth El, 333 SW 4th Avenue, Boca Raton, FL, 33432. Babs will be interred next to her beloved husband, Harvey, at Temple Beth El Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Pap Corps, one of Babs’s favorite charities. The family would like to especially thank Rosie, her longtime companion and devoted caregiver, for her patience and friendship with Babs through the years and the wonderful staff with Trustbridge Hospice for their sensitivity and care during her final days.
