Bette Perlmutter Manheim's Obituary
Bette Perlmutter Manheim, 88, of Vi at Lakeside Village in Lantana passed away Wednesday March 11, 2020. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Bette moved to Poughkeepsie, NY to attend Vassar College where she met her husband Joe, and they remained in Poughkeepsie to raise their family before coming to Florida. Bette graduated from Vassar with a Masters Degree in English and served as the head of the English Department in the Arlington School District and then as Chairwoman of the English Department at Vassar College. Bette moved to Florida in 1978 with her beloved husband Joe and were married for 45 years until his passing in 1998. After Joe's passing Bette found love a second time and married her beloved Ted Manheim. Bette and Ted remained together for 19 years until his passing in January of this year. An avid bridge player, Bette loved to read, attend theater, and was well-traveled. Most of all, Bette loved her family and was an amazing mother and mother-in-law. Bette was the devoted mother of Fred (Phyllis) Perlmutter, the late Joel Perlmutter, Moshe (Diane) Manheim, and Barbara (Fred) Volpe; loving grandmother of Shira, David, Ari, Randi, and Justin, great-grandmother of 13; and dear sister of the late Arthur Bernstein. Chapel services will be held 2 PM Sunday March 15, 2020 at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Rd., Boynton Beach, FL 33437 followed by interment in Eternal Light Memorial Gardens.
