Carol Nussbaum's Obituary
Carol Nussbaum, age 91, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025.
Carol was born on April 8, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, to Otto and Hedwig Bender. A bright and determined student, she graduated high school early and earned a B.A. from Queens College in 1955 with a teaching certificate. Though teaching was not her true calling, Carol later discovered a deep passion for social work. In 1980, she earned her Master of Social Work from Fordham University and went on to work part-time at the Jewish Community Center in Yonkers, NY, until her retirement.
On June 3, 1965, Carol married Spencer Nussbaum. Together, they raised their two children, Michael and Hallie, in Westchester, New York. In 2001, Carol and Spencer relocated to Florida, where Carol found a true sense of home—cherishing lifelong friendships and creating new ones that became just as dear.
Carol was deeply devoted to her family and friends. She traveled the world with them, and after Spencer’s passing in 2011, she devoted herself even more fully to her children and grandchildren. While technology was never her strong suit, music certainly was. She found joy in playing the piano and sharing that love with her grandchildren.
Carol was also an avid player of Bridge and Mah Jongg, finding connection and happiness in her weekly games. She will be remembered for her generosity, gentleness, kindness, and loving spirit. Her sense of humor (oh, those jokes!) and her famously head-turning sneezes were just as much a part of her as her boundless love for others. Her devotion to her family and friends knew no limits.
Carol is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Monique Nussbaum; her daughter and son-in-law, Hallie Nussbaum and Greg Wright; her beloved grandchildren, Kayleigh Gladden, Aidan Nussbaum, Grant Gladden, Carmela Nussbaum, and Paloma Nussbaum; and her three cherished step-grandchildren, Abbie Wright, Autumn Wright, and Nicole Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Nussbaum; her brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Lenore Bender; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob Richter; her nephew Steven Bender; and her later-life partner, William Blesser.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, followed by burial at 1:30 p.m. at the South Florida National Cemetery (Lane 5).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, Inc., which supports essential patient care programs, advanced technology, research, and events such as the Go Pink Luncheon benefitting breast cancer initiatives.
