Charles Reiner's Obituary
Charles Robert Reiner, born in Bronx, New York, April 6th, 1933. Son of Joseph and Sarah Reiner, he was a graduate of the New York School of Printing and went on to graduate Rochester Institute of Technology after serving in the US Army. Charles met Celia, the love of his life when he was just 16. They were married for 68 years and were inseparable until her passing last October, and are now once again reunited. Charles had a long career as a Printing craftsman, but was also passionate in regards to his leisure time. Through the years he was always involved with religious activities. In the 1970's, he was instrumental in the founding, and the actual construction, of The Young Israel of Scarsdale in his earlier years of raising his family of three sons, with Celia by his side. His involvement in The Boy Scouts is legendary, and there are countless stories that can be told that involve Charlie, whether on the local troop, district, or national level. His commitment to volunteering continued once he moved to Florida, and discovered local Flotilla 51 of the US Coast Guard. He spent many hours making sure everyone was safe boating on the water. His guidance for both youth and adult has been well recognized with many awards, certificates, pins, and trophies that all clutter his legendary man space. Through the years his hobbies included adventurous activities like skiing and riding his motorcycle, to more technical activities like working on computers and electronics, and his detailed woodworking skills of creating magnificent wooden boats that are displayed at home. He was also a lover of music, which he passed along to each of his boys. His mind was always working on something! Charlie had a personality that was big on attitude. He had a tough and demanding side that covered a soft and caring soul, and everyone recognized that. He was a loved and admired man. Charles was pre-deceased by his parents Joe and Sarah, his wife Celia, and his son Michael. He is survived by his sons Eric and wife Rose, and Donald and wife Connie. His grandchildren Daniel, Nicole, and Livia. His brother Roy and sister in law Elaine, and his sister Marlene Miller and brother in law Bob. His brother in law and sister in law Walter and Doroth Friedel. He also leaves behind loved cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday October 1st at Mt. Hebron Cemetary, Kew Gardens, NY.
