CHARLOTTE STORPER's Obituary
STORPER, Charlotte of Delray Beach passed away on November 15th. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Storper; Loving mother of Henry (Fran) Storper and Marsha (Lawrence) Brooks; Cherished grandmother of Scott (Claudia) Storper, Beth (Seth) Joseph, David (Dana) Storper, and Andrew Storper; Adored great grandmother of Samantha, Abigal, Alejandro, Benjamin, Graham, Amelia, Daniel, Oliver, and Annabelle. Charlotte Storper grew up in New York City where she met and married her husband and where they raised their two children. When the children were young she was very active in school activities and became president of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), during which time she helped establish a new branch of the New York Public Library. A lifelong avid reader, she went back to school and got her masters degree (with almost enough credits for her doctorate) . She had a successful career in the New York City public schools as a teacher and reading specialist – becoming district coordinator and instructing other teachers how to teach reading. She strongly motivated her students with special outside materials and projects, such as a local bank sponsored class produced magazine.
During the summer months for over 10 years, Charlotte managed a prestigious girls’ camp in Northwestern Connecticut, inspiring campers and staff counselors,
who celebrated her at a camp reunion 50 years later. Additionally, after her husband’s death she assumed full management of their commercial real estate holdings in New York City until its sale in 2006.
After Charlotte and Sidney moved to Florida in 1991,
she began conceiving, developing and directing highly acclaimed and well-attended live musical stage shows at her home community theater as well as others nearby, continuing this for the rest of her life. In 2000, the Palm Beach Post ran a well-researched feature article entitled, “Live! From Delray Beach’s fabulous Rainberry Bay it’s Showtime for the Senior Set. “ Charlotte is quoted : “I think if you have the opportunity in your lifetime to accomplish something that is creative and worthwhile, it would be ridiculous to pass it up. “ She never did.
Charlotte was adored by family and friends who particularly appreciated her vitality, intelligence, talent, compassion, loyalty and enthusiasm.
Services will be held Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 1:45pm at Beth Israel Memorial in Delray Beach. The family will receive friends on Sunday in Delray Beach and on Monday at Henry and Fran Storper’s home in Miami. Donations may be made to HALO or the American Cancer Society.
