Chester Sussman's Obituary
Chester “Chet” was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, mentor, and friend whose warmth, humor, and generosity touched countless lives. Chet loved helping others and sharing the wealth of knowledge he accumulated throughout his life. He took great pride in his work with the New York State Insurance Fund, where he traveled throughout New York delivering workplace safety lectures and educating others with the enthusiasm of a born teacher. A mechanic at heart, Chet could fix almost anything and was always willing to lend a hand, whether it was repairing something for a neighbor, loaning a tool, building theater sets, serving in the Citizens Patrol, or writing articles for the Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations (COWBRA). He was known for his quick wit, endless stories, and jokes that he shared freely with anyone fortunate enough to be nearby.
Chet enjoyed a life filled with family, service, and adventure. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and often shared stories from his military service. He had a passion for fishing, boating, golf, photography, and writing, and spent many cherished summers boating on Long Island with his beloved wife, Betty, and their close circle of friends. In later years, he could often be seen cruising through the community on his scooter, wearing his signature white hat with his little dog, Zoey, at his feet. Above all, Chet loved his family and was immensely proud of them, especially his wife of nearly 67 years, Betty, affectionately known to him as “Wiffy.” He is survived by Betty; his children, Stuart, Andi (Jon), and Jeff; his grandchildren, Danielle, Dara, Josh, Alex, Andrew, and Jake; and his great-granddaughter, Cassandra. His legacy of kindness, humor, curiosity, and service lives on in all who knew and loved him.
