Daniel Gruber's Obituary
Daniel Gruber, 83, of Highland Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, knowing he held a special place in the hearts of his loved ones.
Born on August 22, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, Danny was known best for his larger-than-life personality and his innate ability to turn a routine dinner into a hilarious 4-hour affair. Many servers and chefs are probably breathing a sigh of relief knowing their commutes home will no longer be impeded by the man who always ordered a round of cappuccino and a round sambucca with three coffee beans.
Upon graduating from Erasmus High School, Danny swiftly learned how to make a deal by selling women’s garments in NYC. Danny then moved to Coral Springs, Florida to begin a new career and raise his sons. This Boy-from-Brooklyn fully adopted the Florida Man lifestyle: maintaining a permanent bronze tan without trying, taking long, outdoor runs everyday, embodying Ernest Hemingway in Key West, becoming a Master Diver, enjoying fishing and boating, and cheering on the Florida Gators. Danny was also a man of many talents, including Art Deco antique collector, amateur interior designer, Mr. Fix-It, talented bongo player, and avid reader of all subjects.
Danny spent almost 50 years in the construction industry, beginning with tennis courts and moving on to residential communities, civil construction and rock mining. He was thankful to spend several of those years working alongside his son, Glenn. Almost 30 years ago, Danny met his life partner, Judy, in Boca Raton and became the proud father of Judy’s children, Sondra and Alex. Danny and Judy spent the past several decades traveling, creating welcoming homes on Sugarloaf Key and in Highland Beach, and celebrating their children and grandchildren’s many milestones.
Danny was a dedicated father who often said his goal was that his children and grandchildren have a better life than he did. It made no difference if your car was making a rattling sound or if you lost your passport, Danny always answered his phone, remained calm, and solved the problem with you. In each of his kids, he instilled the importance of courage, hard work, and living life to the fullest. Danny/Pops/Poppy’s thirst for life will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of his family.
Danny is survived by his beloved life partner, Judith; his son, Glenn (Marisol) and their children, Danny and Andres; his daughter, Sondra (Michael) and their children, Gideon, Quinn and Abigail; and his son, Alexander; his sisters, Sandy (Sonny) and Lanie (Phil); and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Danny is predeceased in death by his parents, Harry and Esther, of blessed memory.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 10 AM, Eternal Light Cemetery, 11520 State Road 7, Boynton Beach FL, 33473.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
