I was part of the CD/Coop III group that was sent to Venezuela by the Peace Corps. We trained in South Tucson, Arizona and did both a one week and a 3-4 week to Mexico to enhance our Spanish language capabilities as well as our flexibilities and resourcefulness under new and challenging situations. Dennis served on the east side of Venezuela and I served on the western side near the Colombian border. Dennis was always a serious, dedicated and disciplined Volunteer who did an excellent job. He was also fun, a team player, and a role model for all of us. Dennis will be sorely missed by our group, as well as the many Venezuelans who benefitted from his hard work and community service. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

The Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Florida would like to send their sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Custage. Like so many other pioneer Peace Corps Volunteers...... They didn't ask what the country could do for them............ They volunteered their service to help their country.

Dennis and I served together in the Peace Corps in Venezuela in 1967. He came to my site a year after I was serving there, and we quickly became good friends. When I got married in 1970, Dennis came to my wedding. He flew from Washington D.C. to California for the event.

I once visited him at his home in Florida and we maintained contact several years over the past 25. His passing was a shock to me. Dennis was just 2 months younger than me. Inasmuch as our contact was infrequent, I will sorely miss him. Dennis was one of the finest people I've known.

Dennis was a wonderful Peace Corps companion when we lived in Sucre state in eastern Venezuela,1967-69. My to-be husband, Carlos Salcedo, lived with him. We shared many good times and took care of each other. He was a fun and trustworthy friend, remembered with much affection.
