May he Rest in Peace,
My sincere condolences to everyone. Working with Dennis was a highlight of my career. He was a fun, knowledgeable, and caring person. Our years of conversation and love of family and tennis were memorable.
After our retirement, I just discovered that I now winter in Deerfield Beach and he was in Boynton Beach; wish I had known.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Simon
I met Dennis when I took his anatomy and physiology class in a temporary trailer classroom at what was Mattatuck Community College in Waterbury, CT in 1972. I was taking his class so I could go to optometry school, but I was inspired by Dennis’ teaching and encouragement, and he convinced me that I should go to medical school. He single-handedly changed the course of my life. When I became an ophthalmologist, he and Ann became my patients for many years. Every time he came to the office, I would introduce him as my hero and my mentor and the guy who changed my life. He was always very humble about that, but it was absolutely true. I now teach ophthalmology residents and medical students and mentor some college students. I only hope that I can impact someone’s life the way Dennis impacted mine. Dennis, I love you, I’ll miss you, but I’ll never forget you. You’ll always be my hero.

Dr. Rich visited or called us at the NVCC Library with a regularity that only he would have maintained. My talks with him were always filled with interesting information, laughs, and assurances that we would track down the errant issue of New Scientist that he wanted to reread. We missed him when he moved to Florida and we're very saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to his family, and our thanks for sharing him with us for so many years. I will miss Dennis a lot. He was fun to be with. I could always look forward to stimulating conversation when we were together. He never held back his opinion or his thoughts on resolving a problem. He was extremely loyal to family and friends. The gruffer he was was indicative of how much he loved you. Prior to moving to Florida he would call me with various tasks. We would talk about the order of things and he would suggest what he thought needed to be done and I be the one to do it! As I write this the finality of his passing brings heartfelt pain. Dennis was unique. He was a friend and an in-law and I loved him. There will be no one to skeem with.
Our condolences from the Steil family - Evan and Linda, Rebeccah, Benjamin, Sarah Michaela, and Aaron. My oldest memory of Dennis was watching him eat with gusto a plate full of spare ribs at a Chinese restaurant. I think it was the mid to late 70s, but not sure where.
May your memory be a blessing Grandpa. I hope I can be the man you knew I could be. I love you
David (Your grandson)
