Dorothy Ethel Genever's Obituary
Dorothy Ethel Genever, 94, of West Palm Beach, FL passed away on November 5th, 2016. Born in Lonsdale, Rhode Island, she was the youngest of five children. As a navy wife, she raised three children as she moved from RI to Alabama to California eventually settling in Florida.
She was a woman of the ages. With Douglas, her husband, they flew their own plane around the Florida Keys, the Bahamas and Mexico. In the fifties, she and Douglas crewed on a sixty foot catch in the races on the Narragansett Bay. Under sail with her three sons through the Bahamas and the Windward Islands or travelling far and wide by cruise shop and motor coach, she saw all of the United States, Canada, Hawaii and Alaska as well as other ports of call far and wide. Dottie loved it all!
She could spin yarns – whether it was knitting afghans for everyone in the family or spinning another type of yarn about the sailfish and snook she’s caught. Dottie loved a good cup of coffee.
Of the many other things she did, she was a member of the Rainbow Girls, The Eastern Star and The Daughters of the Nile. She retired from Pratt Whitney and Paul Beach County School Board after which she gave countless hours as a volunteer at Palm Beach Hospitals. All in all, a life well lived!
She is survived by her beloved husband of 77 years, Douglas; adored sons Douglas John (Kathleen) and Charles (Christine Race) and daughter Dorothy E. Swan; loving grandchildren Bonnie Swan, Robert (Jacinda) Swan and Ashley (Michael) Weatherall and cherished great grandchildren Christopher, Lily, Marlimae, Fin, Algna, Violet and Mason.
A memorial service will be held for Dorothy on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, FL. 33437 with Father Anthony Davila of St. Christopher Espicpal Church officiating.
For donations in her memory, the family asks that you kindly consider Trustbridge Hospice.
