Eduard S Simkin's Obituary
Eduard Simkin, beloved father and grandfather, passed away suddenly at his home in Delray Beach, Florida on Monday, August 9, 2021. Eduard will be remembered by his family and all who knew him as a profoundly intelligent, optimistic, caring and funny soul.
Born in Russia during the WWII, Eduard was the only child of Eva Goldstein and Semyon Simkin. While Eduard did not know his father who died heroically in the battle during the WWII, he was a devoted son to his mother throughout her life. Eduard was a talented scientist and engineer who earned his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. He built a distinguished career developing superhard materials used for various industrial applications at the Research Institute for Superhard Materials in Kiev, Ukraine and continued his work in the field after he immigrated to the United States. He published numerous scientific articles and was awarded several patents for his inventions in material science.
Eduard was a tremendously devoted father to his only daughter, Lana, with whom he enjoyed a loving relationship. He was "the best grandpa in the world" to his twin grandsons Max and Jacob, who will sorely miss playing chess with him, despite losing most games to grandpa. Eduard was an avid traveler whose adventurous spirit took him around the world from China to Europe to Israel. He was known to his family and friends as a strong, industrious, resilient person with an uncanny ability to find solutions to problems and the silver lining in any situation. He was a voracious reader and an art lover, who possessed a wonderful sense of humor and could deliver a well-timed joke in all circumstances.
He is survived by his daughter Lana and grandsons Max and Jacob. His absence in their lives will be acutely and perpetually felt, but so will his love.
