Ed was born on January 20, 1931, in Syracuse, NY to Frank and Nettie Katzman, the youngest of three boys. After graduating from Syracuse University, where he was a member of the gymnastics team (and team captain his senior year), he served in the U.S. Army. During his Army service, in August 1955, he married Esther, whom he adored and shared more than 62 wonderful years.
Ed had a successful career as a physical therapist, becoming Chief Physical Therapist at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, DE, before returning to school to pursue a medical degree, which he earned in 1964. He was a highly respected pediatrician in Newark, DE for 35 years, passionate about his work and beloved by his patients. Dr. Katzman was known as much for his calming demeanor, patience, and compassion as his considerable medical expertise.
