Elihu Meyer Schepps' Obituary
Elihu Schepps, 95, of Boca Raton, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at Sinai Residences.
Born to Isadore and Rae Schepps, Elihu was the youngest of three sons. His brothers, Lew and Archie, predeceased him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joan (Fortgang) Schepps; his son, Israel Schepps of Connecticut; his son-in-law, Bill Matschke; four grandchildren, Hillary (Roberto) of Bologna, Italy, Liza (Patrick) Bradley, Ali Matschke, and Max Schepps; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his cherished daughter, Sara Matschke.
Elihu graduated as valedictorian of Fair Lawn High School in New Jersey and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University. He proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Formerly of Holyoke, Massachusetts, Elihu spent his professional career with Mastex Industries, Inc., the family-owned textile mill, where he served as Vice President and later President until his retirement in 2007. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to the community, he was named Holyoke Business Person of the Year in 1997.
Deeply committed to civic service, Elihu was an active Rotarian, served as a Director of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce, was Vice Chairman of the Holyoke Economic Development Industrial Committee for many years, and also served as Vice Chair of the Mayor's Industrial Advisory Committee.
Elihu was a devoted member of Congregation Sons of Zion, the National Yiddish Book Center, and numerous other organizations. Above all, he treasured time with his family and was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also an accomplished watercolor artist, and his grandchildren proudly display many of his paintings in their homes—a lasting reminder of his creativity and love.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Miriame and Maci, for their compassionate care and friendship.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel (Boynton Location), 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, Florida 33484.
Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 11520 State Road 7, Boynton Beach, Florida 33473.
