Ellen Berta Merl's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Ellen Merl announces her passing on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Ellen died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 at the time of her death.
Devoted wife to Kurt Merl for 74 years, she was born on September 10, 1930, in Mulheim on the Ruhr, Germany. She resided in Boca Raton, Florida since July 1994. Her prior residences include Puerto Rico, Plainview, New York, and Washinton Heights, in New York City.
Kurt and Ellen have known each other since they were 15 years old, first meeting in 1945. At that meeting Ellen was in charge of guarding the girl’s stairway at her High School. Kurt was trying to enter that way, but Ellen would not let him pass. They have been by each other’s side ever since.
Ellen is survived by Kurt, her loving husband of 74 years. Her children, Susan Merl-Nachinson (Jon), Jeffery Merl (Paulette), and Gary Merl (Linda) and by her grandchildren, Lauren Beslow (Micheal), Joseph Nachinson, Joshua Merl (Johnnie Maroon-Merl), Jessica Matisoff (Jason) and Lily Neville (Travis).
She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
Ellen was a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed playing golf and canasta, reading books and caring for her husband Kurt.
The Funeral Service will be held starting 3PM on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at The Gardens, 4103 Military Trail North, Boca Raton, Florida.
Ellen had the kind of spirit that made this world a better place. She will be missed and forever loved.
