Floyd Markowitz's Obituary
Floyd Markowitz of Lake Worth, FL left this world but never our hearts on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, a victim of Covid-19. Born in 1934 in Brooklyn, and raised by his adoring single mother Ada Belofsky, Floyd’s intelligence and outgoing personality was tenderly nurtured. On scholarship, he attended the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy (now Long Island University) and began a long and successful career as a pharmacist. He owned a chain of stores on Long Island for many years and retired early to enjoy time with his beloved bride, Roberta, whom he met on a swing at camp. Floyd and Roberta were married over 65 years. They raised Sidney Markowitz (Anne) of Long Island, Carol Richman (Mitchell) of PA, and David Markowitz (Maria) of OR. Carol and Mitchell gave them their two precious grandchildren, Joshua (Vanessa) and Jessica (Jason). Nearly one year ago their first great grandchild, Maya, was born to Jessica and Jason.
If you knew Floyd, you loved him. He enjoyed telling stories of his life adventures, from the movie and sports stars he met while working in NYC to the world travels he enjoyed with Roberta. He was smart, well-read, and a whiz at Jeopardy! As a NY Jets fan, he never gave up on his team, wearing a certain Jets sweatshirt long past its prime. Floyd loved cars, including buying them. He negotiated car deals like a pro for himself, his grandchildren, and pretty much anyone who asked him to. A loving man, he never hesitated to say I love you or give hugs and kisses. He helped his children get started in life by offering money and advice, but mostly faith in their abilities. His children never for a moment doubted his love for them. The marriage he shared with Roberta was also deeply loving and devoted, a model to envy.
Floyd leaves behind a grief-stricken family. Roberta’s heart will forever be broken, and he will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends.
