On Saturday, July 4, 2026, Francine Barshay, loving wife, mother of three daughters, Bubbe, mother-in- law, daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend passed away at the age of 90. Her Hebrew name, given by her mother was Faygeleh (פֿײגעלע), meaning “little birdy”
Francine was born on February 18th in Brooklyn, NY to Charles and Beatrice Schreiber. She grew up in Asbury Park, NJ with her older brother Norman and later moved to Sunnyside, Queens. She met her now late husband, Bob (Robert) on a blind date in Brooklyn set up by friends and married 6 months later in 1955. They were married for 58 years, a relationship built on love, laughter, and a deep sense of family. They have 3 beautiful daughters, Debbie, Margie (m. Mark) and Kathy (m. Rob) who they raised in both Sunnyside and later in Massapequa, NY. Her bond with each of her daughters was a testament to her love and was heartwarming to witness.
Francine earned her bachelor's degree in Behavior Science from NY Institute of Technology in 1982 and worked in a medical Laboratory as a lab tech at NY Tech until she later became an insurance agent and joined forces with Bob to create Barshay Agency in Farmingdale, NY. Together, they had a love for travel and were able to visit many places around the world. Francine and Bob later retired to Delray Beach, FL.
Together, Francine and Bob have 6 grandchildren— Andrew (m. Gina), Brandon (m. Jojo), Matthew (m. Maya) Valerie, Danny (m. Annie), and Lisa (m. Chris). She also has 5 great- grandchildren, Jasmine, Caleb, Cyrus, Naya, and Talia who all brought so much joy to her.
She loved strolling Wakodahatchee Wetlands to bird watch, watching Broadway or clubhouse shows, playing mahjong with friends, crocheting, knitting, shopping, collecting chatchkas from her travels, and visiting with family. She had a rich taste for fashion and loved putting together pieces that would stand out.
Francine was truly a light in this world full of love, humor, and strength. She will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to know and love her.
