Gary Blake's Obituary
July 25, 1944 – March 12, 2019
Gary Blake passed away on March 12, 2019 in Delray Beach, Florida at the age of 74. Born in NYC in 1944, he was the son of the late Jean (Ullman) Blake and the late George Blake. Beloved brother of Bonnie Blake Drucker and Billy Blake, he was the devoted father of Samantha Blake, and a loving uncle to his nieces and nephew and adoring nephew to Bob Ullman of East Hampton, NY and Lyla and Russ Ward of CT. He was the cherished partner of Louise Wolkis of Delray Beach.
Gary was a generous friend, gourmet, theater-lover, punster, voracious reader and an expert on all things literary. He was also a commentator on political and literary events on Facebook. He was rabidly anti-Trump.
After graduating from Tuckahoe High School, he received a B.S. in 1966and an M.S. from the University of Wisconsin, as well as a Ph.D. in Communications from CCNY. Gary was the author of over a dozen books from “The Elements of Business Writing” to “A Freudian Slip is When You Say One Thing But Mean Your Mother,” a book on puns. Through his company, The Communications Workshop, Gary ran business writing seminars for hundreds of corporations.
Gary was an artist for most of his life and in recent years, had many public art shows and sales through his website, garyblakepaintings.com. His paintings are in well over 30 art collections.
