Gerald Glim's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Gerald “Jerry” Glim
November 1, 1938 – July 13, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald “Jerry” Glim, who left us peacefully on July 13, 2025, at the age of 86. He was surrounded by the love of his devoted family, just as he had always surrounded them with his quiet strength and steady presence. Born in the Bronx, NY on November 1, 1938, Jerry lived a life marked by service, loyalty, kindness, and deep devotion to family. At the young age of 17, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS Saratoga as an electrician in the ship's engine room. He wore his Navy cap often—a symbol of his service and sacrifice—and was frequently stopped by strangers who thanked him for his dedication to his country. Jerry was married to the love of his life, Ethel, for an incredible 65 years. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Whether cooking together, walking hand in hand, or
simply enjoying each other’s company, their connection was unmistakable and inspiring. Jerry and Ethel raised a close-knit family that brought him immense pride and joy. He is survived by his beloved wife Ethel; his children Joe (Sheri), Cheryl (Steve), and Danny; his cherished daughter-in-law Isabel; his adored grandchildren Brett, Brooke, Jenna, Nicole, and Matthew; his brother Arnold (Diane), sister -in-law Marion; nieces, a nephew, cousins and many friends. He is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Sheri, son-in-law Steve, his brother, Ben and his parents, Lillian and Morris. Jerry worked for Western Union for over 30 years, where he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of colleagues for his work ethic and warmth. After retiring from WU, he continued to serve his community as a maintenance mechanic at Rockland Community College for another decade. Even in his professional life, Jerry remained the calming, thoughtful presence his
children remember so fondly—never angry, always a voice of reason.
Creativity and resourcefulness were among Jerry’s many gifts. An avid woodworker in his earlier years, he was always fixing or building something. His talent as an electrician never went to waste, as he was always ready to lend a hand to friends and family in need. In 2002, Jerry and Ethel moved to Boynton Beach, Florida, where they began a new and meaningful chapter. Jerry volunteered for 10 years with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department, patrolling the community and keeping others safe. He was active in weekly discussion groups, loved reading history, and had a deep appreciation for learning—often seen immersed in documentaries or researching new recipes to cook for his family. Above all, Jerry’s life was defined by his unwavering love for his family and his steadfast integrity. His humility, selflessness, and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always cherished.
A funeral service will be held to celebrate Jerry’s life on July 23, 2025, at 11:00 am at South Florida National Cemetery - 6501 FL-7, Wellington, FL 33449. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform a kind deed in his memory—just as Jerry would have done.
