Gerald Kaplan's Obituary
Gerald A Kaplan, 87, of Lake Worth, Florida, died on January 12, 2024, at home. He was born on April 13,1936 to Ruby and Doris Kaplan (deceased) of Boston, Massachusetts.
Gerry was the oldest of three children. He attended Boston Latin School and later graduated from Boston University with a degree in Political Science. At the age of 13, Gerry became an outstanding pianist where he found his love of music at the South End Music School in Boston. Growing up, Gerry held a lot of odd jobs such as a newspaper boy, roller coaster tester at Nantasket Amusement Park, a busboy at a country club, a construction worker, and an ice cream man who owed the company $72 at the end of the season because he gave the ice cream away to the kids who didn’t have money. This was the type of guy Gerry was. He was an honest, generous, kind soul and will be greatly missed.
For over 63 years, he was married to the love of his life, Judith Kaplan whom he met when he was 14. They married on August 7, 1960, in a small outdoor garden ceremony in Newton, Massachusetts. Judy and Gerry moved to Maryland in 1960 where they raised two children, Lisa and Jeff. After many years working for others as an insurance adjuster, he opened his own business, G Kaplan Associates, in the 80’s.
In 2009, Gerry and Judy moved to Lake Worth, Florida where they enjoyed many years of friendship and fellowship with members of the Lucerne Pointe Community. Gerry was voted President of his condo association as well as Temple Shaarei Shalom (TSS) Brotherhood until his passing.
Gerry is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Lisa Yaw (Greg) and their children Brenna and Adina Yaw; son Jeff Kaplan (Christie) and their children Brady, Courtenay and Garrett Kaplan; siblings Marty Kaplan (Susan) and Paula Mark (Ted).
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf with friends and family. One of his favorite memories was playing at Pebble Beach on his 80th birthday with his son, Jeff.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15th at 2:15 pm at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel with Rabbi Anthony Fratello officiating. The service will be livestreamed: https://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/96697/hash:D064491FA4F6C089
