Gilbert Colen's Obituary
Gilbert Colen of Delray Beach, Florida, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on April 26, 2016 at age 90. He is survived by wife Estelle, beloved stepsons Bennett, Steve and Daniel, and grandchildren Lian, Jake and Rebecca.
Gil personified the Greatest Generation, enlisting in the U.S. Armed Forces at age 18 and stationed as a rifleman in the European Theater of Operations from 1943 to 1946. He earned four medals for his service, including the American Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He returned home to the Bronx, New York where he worked as a baker for many years, before moving to Florida in 1981, where he married his beloved wife, Estelle. Estelle and Gil travelled the world and ran a travel agency in Hollywood, Florida until they retired and moved to Delray Beach in 2005.
Gil’s humor and kindness were indomitable. He was a gentleman and a gentle man, and will be missed by his family and many friends at Valencia Palms in Delray and all over the world.
