Gladys Hope Spitzer's Obituary
Gladys Hope Spitzer passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025 at the age of 91. Gladys was born and raised in Far Rockaway, NY. She then lived in Malverne, NY and Hewlett, NY for many years. After retirement, she moved to Delray Beach, FL and then to Boca Raton, FL. She enjoyed 66 years of marriage to Marvin Spitzer, who passed away in April 2023.
Gladys was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loving friend to many. Gladys is survived by brother Stuart and sister Joyce, daughter Jennifer and husband Howard, and son Billy and wife Alexis. She was also a loving grandmother to Jacob, Abie, Avi, and Matthew and Rachel and great granddaughter Mira. Predeceased by her parents Harry and Diana Abrams.
Gladys had a lifelong devotion to learning, family, and culture. She taught reading in public and parochial schools on Long Island for many years. She was also an inveterate reader, crossword puzzle solver, bridge player. She loved going to the theater, classical musical performances, opera, and the ballet. In her retirement, she enjoyed cultural travel to Europe and China, and participated in many continuing education programs. She loved spending time gathering with family, maintained lifelong friendships, and made new friends wherever she went.
