Gordon Baier's Obituary
Gordon Baier passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He lived a full and meaningful life defined by kindness, humility, and deep devotion to his family.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, Gordon was the son of immigrant parents whose values of hard work and perseverance shaped his life. He went on to attend Cornell University, where he studied civil engineering, and participated in ROTC, reflecting an early sense of duty and commitment.
Gordon met the love of his life, Lesa, through a family connection, and from their very first date there was an ease and comfort between them that would define their relationship. They married that November and shared 60 wonderful years together, building a life filled with love, partnership, and family. They settled in New York, raising their family in Bellmore and Merrick, before later retiring to Florida.
Gordon owned and operated his own business, Construction Waterproofers, Inc., for over 40 years, building a career marked by hard work, dedication, and pride in what he created. Through his work, he contributed to well-known landmarks including the United Nations building and Yankee Stadium.
He was a man of many passions. Gordon loved model railroading and took great pride in his train sets. He loved spending time on the water and entertaining friends and family on his boat, The Baier Essentials. He enjoyed politics, reading, theater, classical music, jazz, and a good game of chess—especially with his father-in-law, Nathan.
He had a great love of food—especially lobster and black and white cookies—and brought humor and warmth to every table. He also had a special love for his cats—Samantha, Mandy, and Charlie. Gordon was known for his kindness, his steady presence, and his remarkable patience. A devoted father and proud grandfather, he found his greatest joy in time spent with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lesa; his son, Neil; and his granddaughters, Nora and Rocky.
Gordon will be remembered for his gentle nature, his steady presence, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
