Helen Katz's Obituary
Leonessa Dispaltro, was the 4th child born to Italian immigrants, Mattea & Elia,
on November 20, 1931
Her oldest brother, Joe, began calling her Helen after studying about Helen of Troy (the face that launched a thousand ships) in school. He believed his sister was equally as beautiful and began calling her Helen. The nickname stuck and the rest is history...Leonessa had her name legally changed and only family ever called her by her given name
Graduated from Cliffside Park High School and immediately went to work to help support the family
Loving mother to daughters, Michele (Steven) Mizerek and Lenore (Paul) Bray-Bryce.
Worked as a bookkeeper for the North Bergen Board of Education for 19 years
Devoted grandmother to her 3 grandchildren Matthew. Michael & Jadyn
With a heavy heart she left New Jersey and retired to Florida 25 years ago where she made Delray West Estates her home.
She was kind, compassionate, generous, loyal, honest, and fair...she instilled these values in her children
Taught by example that family is everything and with love everything is possible
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Lou, her parents, and 4 of her brothers & sisters. Her sister, Lucy Diner, is the only surviving sibling
Loved dearly and missed endlessly by her family, especially her daughters
A memorial service will take place at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 5808 W Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, FL on Monday, December 23rd at 3:00 pm. Rabbi Kaplan will be officiating.
