Herbert Applebaum's Obituary
Herbert Richard Applebaum March 15, 2025 - Age 97 Boynton Beach, Florida It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Herbert Richard Applebaum, who peacefully passed away on the morning of March 15, 2025, at the age of 97. Herbert, known affectionately as "Herbie," lived a full and rich life, one filled with love, laughter, and a remarkable legacy of kindness and dedication to family and community.
Born in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Herbie went on to serve in the U.S. Army before attending Syracuse University. He became a successful businessman and was deeply involved in his community, notably serving as a proud member and president of the North Shore Rotary Club of Staten Island. His business acumen and personal generosity left an indelible mark on those around him.
Herbie's love for life was evident in everything he did, whether he was helping others, enjoying a round of golf, or spending quality time with his family and friends. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his compassionate spirit, and his unwavering work ethic. He proudly achieved the rare and exciting feat of bowling a perfect 300 game!
Herbie is survived by his beloved wife, Bunni Applebaum, with whom he shared 74 years of marriage, filled with love, affection, respect and devotion. He was the wonderful father to Simon Applebaum, Gary (Janet) Applebaum, and Stefanie (David) Ruben. Herbie was also the cherished son of Simon and Minnie Applebaum, and the loving brother of the late Ethel Robbins and brother-in-law of Harold Robbins.
Herbie was a proud and loving grandfather to Mallory (Mike) Sudberg, Taryn (Ernest) Cain, Melissa (Ted) | Sandler, Corey (Avery) Ruben, and Noah (girlfriend, Rebecca Wieser) Ruben, and a treasured great-grandfather to Landon and Ruby. He touched the hearts of all who knew him, leaving a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love. He is also survived by his loving nieces Karyl (Joseph) Stile and Alisa (Jean) Robbins.
His passing leaves a profound emptiness, but his family and friends will carry his memory in their hearts, forever grateful for the time they shared with this extraordinary man.
Herbie's kindness, sense of humor, and devotion to family will be missed by all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to the North Shore Rotary Club of Staten Island.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Beth Israel Funeral Home at 5508 W. Atlantic Avenue, Delray, FL 33484. The service will be available by Zoom, the link will be available prior to the service.
