Herbert Alan Gilbert's Obituary
On January 24, 2023, Herbert Gilbert, 92, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed peacefully surrounded by loving family. Born on January 10th, 1931, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Samuel and Rebecca (Marcus) Gilbert. He graduated from Geneva College, married his sweetheart Marlene (Garson), and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. After returning home, he joined the family business, Gilbert Iron & Steel, and settled in Beaver Falls where he raised a family. Herb enjoyed acting, singing, winning at gin and craps, and was intensely creative. His inventions included the first U.S. patent granted for a smokeless electronic cigarette in 1963.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Sheldon. He is survived by his loving wife Marlene, his sister Joan (Jerry Weissman), three sons: Bruce (Laura Bands), Steven (Michelle Coffino), and Rick (Eleanor Ruggiero), five grandchildren: Andrew, Emily, Sara, Valerie (Benton Snyder), Ethan (Nikki Parkman), Joshua, and Noah, and two great-grandchildren: Sloane (Snyder) and Sam (Gilbert).
He will be laid to rest at Agudath Achim Cemetery in Beaver Falls in a private service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
