Herman J. Soifer's Obituary
HERMAN J. SOIFER
December 20, 1921 – March 14, 2020
There is a little less goodness in the world, following the passing of Herman J. Soifer, devoted husband of 76 years of Francine, beloved brother of Rose Stein (deceased), Edward, and David, beloved brother-in-law of Barbara (the late Robert J.) Lasky, beloved father of Robert (JoAnn), Gerry (Nancy), Debra (the late Neal) Galbo, and Lori (Dennis) Forgione, beloved grandfather of Stephanie, Brian, Michael, Vincent, Jonathan, Alexa, Anthony, Nicole, and Michael, beloved great grandfather of Jake, Ella, Rylee, Ava, Brendan, Charlie, Violet, Nicholas, Raya, Samantha and Grace.
Born and raised on the west side of Chicago, Herman proudly served as an aeronautics instructor in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war was over, he joined his father and brothers in the family liquor business. With the opportunities provided by the post war population growth and suburban expansion, Herman began a long and illustrious career in the real estate business, eventually becoming a widely respected member of the home building industry, serving on the board of directors of the Greater Chicago Land Home Builders Association, and as chairman of its sales and marketing council, receiving numerous honors for his professional achievements and contributions.
His career continued after moving to South Florida in 1973, where he, once again, became a highly respected member of the home building industry. Retiring in 1987, he enjoyed golf, fishing, building model planes, reading, bike riding, and tinkering around the house. But most of all, he enjoyed just spending time with Francine, and the family.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, and has left a void that can never be filled in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
