Howard Klau's Obituary
Howard Klau, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished above all else. He was 88 years old.
Born on January 31, 1938, in New York City, Howard carried with him the energy, resilience, and character of his roots throughout his life. He attended Long Island University before beginning a long and successful career in commercial real estate with Newmark, where he was respected for his integrity, work ethic, and steady presence.
In 1969, Howard moved with his young family to Marlboro, New Jersey, becoming part of a growing community that he would help shape for decades to come. Deeply committed to civic life, he served on the Marlboro Planning Board and Town Council, playing a meaningful role in guiding the town’s development and helping transform it into the vibrant community it is today.
Howard was also a founding member of Temple Ohav Shalom, where his faith and dedication left a lasting impact. His connection to his Jewish heritage was central to who he was, and he nurtured that passion through a lifelong love of Jewish history, thoughtful conversation, and constant learning.
Above all, Howard was a family man. Kind, steady, and endlessly devoted, he never missed a game, recital, holiday, or milestone. Whether it was his children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews, he showed up—always. His presence was a source of strength, pride, and unconditional love.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a round of golf, a quiet moment with a
book, and reading multiple newspapers cover to cover each day, staying curious and engaged with the world around him.
Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Susan; his daughters, Lisa
Marinelli (Tom) and Jackie Ehrlich; his son, Scott Klau (Susie); his treasured
grandchildren, Noah and Sarah Marinelli, Rachel and Molly Ehrlich, and Ben and Lily Klau; his sister, Roberta Stummer; and his brother, Marvin Klau (Elaine). He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Howard’s life was defined by devotion—to his family, his faith, and his
community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the town he helped build, and the family he loved so deeply.
Donations in Howard’s memory may be made to Trustbridge Hospice of Florida and The Pap Corps. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
