IDA GREEBEL's Obituary
Ida Greebel, nee Lowenbraun, passed away on March 28, 2017 at the Leisure Chateau Rehabilitation facility in Lakewood, NJ at the age of 101. Having survived the dreaded German invasion of Poland in 1939 she made her way to the Ghetto of Rzeszów, from where she was interned in six different concentration camps (including the death camp of Auschwitz II-Birkenau). After being liberated by a US armored division from the concentration camp of Neustadt-Glewe (Mecklenburg-Schwerin/ Germany), she married R’ Avraham Abba Greebel.
She and her husband then wound up in a displaced persons’ camp in Cremona, Italy, where she gave birth to a son named Moshe Mendel. Eventually in 1949 she with her husband and child, and one older surviving brother and his two sons, crossed the Atlantic Ocean, arriving at the shores of the United States.
Spending her days as a homemaker and assistant to her husband in his business, she and her family lived in Newark, NJ until 1967 from where they eventually made their way to Delray Beach, Florida for retirement, where she lived since 1973. For her last three and a half years she lived with her son and daughter-in-law in Belmar, NJ.
Ida Greebel is survived by her son Rabbi Moshe Mendel Greebel, her daughter-in-law Sandra Greebel, two grandchildren Ari Dov (Elisheva) Greebel and Elisheva Rivka Greebel, and four great grandchildren, Sima Bracha, Hadassah Kaila, Avigayil, Avraham Gershon.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Shiva wil be at the Greebel residence, 222 Tuscany D, Delray Beach, Fl 33484 Thursday and Friday. And at the residence of Rabbi Moshe and Sandra Greebel 1104 E Street, Belmar, New Jersey 07719 Sunday thru Tuesday 4 pm to 8 pm.
