Ilse Babitt's Obituary
Ilse (Elsie) Babitt, 90, of New York, NY, passed away on August 19, 2025, after a long and very fulfilling life.
Elsie was born on September 4, 1934, to parents Gertrude & Oscar Finger in Vilshofen, Germany. Oscar’s wisdom enabled Elsie, her older sister, Edith & her parents to escape the Nazis. The family boarded a boat bound for America in December 1938 and Elsie arrived in the USA in 1939 to begin a new life. The family settled into an apartment in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.
It was at George Washington High School where Elsie met Ivan Babitt, the love of her life. They would marry when Elsie was nineteen and Ivan was twenty. After Ivan finished his service in the Army and while he was attending college, Elsie worked as a legal secretary.
In 1967, they moved to New Rochelle, NY where they raised their children, Mitchell, Bruce, and Gail and lived a wonderful life. After the kids were out of the house, Elsie and Ivan bought a house in The Polo Club of Boca Raton, where they resided until shortly after Ivan Passed away.
Elsie is predeceased by Gertrude, Oscar, Edith, Ivan, and Mitchell. Elsie is survived by her children Bruce, Gail and her wife JJ, and daughter-in-law Linda, grandchildren Andrew and his wife Britt, Stephanie and her husband Jonathan Fanfan, and Matthew and great grandchildren Faith Fanfan, Jonny Fanfan, and Jaydin Fanfan.
A funeral service will be held at The Gardens of Boca Raton at 12pm on Sunday,
August 24, 2025, with entombment to follow.
