IRA H DISCHLER's Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of Ira Howard Dischler. Ira was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1930; the only son of an only son. His father passed away at a young age, so Ira was raised by his mother, aunt and uncle, and always surrounded by many loving family members.
He graduated from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn in 1948 and went on to the University of Houston as a photography major. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean War.
After his honorable discharge from the Army as First Lieutenant in 1954, Ira moved back home to Brooklyn. That same year he went on a blind date and met the love of his life, Dorothy. Ira and Dorothy were married in October 1954. Shortly thereafter, and under his father-in-law’s guidance, Ira entered the men's clothing industry. This was the start of a life-long career in retail in which Ira would manage stores all over the tri-state area. While still living in Brooklyn Ira and Dorothy had two amazing daughters: Marjorie and Jill.
With a larger family Ira and Dorothy decided to move to Parsippany, New Jersey. Here they found a new community of friends just like in Brooklyn, with whom they would share many happy memories. Fast forward to the 1990s, and Ira was ecstatic with the birth of his two grandsons: Brendan and Shane. Being the only other boys in his immediate family, Ira and his grandsons formed a very close bond. Both of his grandsons would go on to earn doctorate degrees; they also both met loves of their lives of whom Ira was exceedingly proud.
The final home Ira and Dorothy shared was in Delray Beach, Florida; and just like in Brooklyn and Parsippany, Ira and Dorothy quickly built another close knit social circle. Here Ira kept busy connecting with friends and, of course, reading the New York Times every day. Also, Ira made sure to give back to his community, working as a volunteer on the technology committee at Villa Borghese, and also at Green Cay Nature Center, where Ira would be honored for 10 years of service.
Ira is predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy. He is survived by his two daughters: Marjorie and Jill; as well as his grandchildren and their spouses: Brendan & Amy and Shane & Carley.
A memorial service will be held at the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel at 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, FL 33437 on Monday July 27, 2026 at 10:15am.
